I am incredibly excited to announce that Alumni Ventures Group has created a new internship program exclusively for undergraduate students. The AVG internship is an opportunity for an undergrad to get his or her foot in the door of the venture industry and join a fast-paced, professional, and entrepreneurial environment building the AVG brand and community.

No Longer Hard to Access

Venture Capital is notorious for being hard to break into, even as a seasoned veteran of startups and investing. Access to VC as a student or recent graduate is almost unheard of.

At AVG, we believe in access and we believe in the future of entrepreneurship.

Students from some of the nation’s top universities bring a unique drive and energy to any company. This entrepreneurial spirit fits perfectly with the culture at AVG.

Our recruitment schedule most closely aligns with quarter-system schools, but is open to all undergraduate students in the US.

We want this program to bring in the brightest and most creative minds in the country. To promote this inclusivity and diversity in the program, we will provide housing and give compensation to all interns participating in the program.

Best of Both Worlds

What brought me to and kept me at AVG is what I hope will bring more students to the company: the resources and experience of venture capital firm married with the culture and environment of a growing startup. About five years old, AVG truly is the best of both worlds for a young entrepreneur or venture capitalist.

More About the Role

Interns will have the ability to learn from some of the strongest investors at the second most active venture firm in the US (Pitchbook). Throughout our 10-week program, participants can work within our Communications, Business Development, or Investment teams. Interns will not only learn the ins and outs of VC, but also how to handle themselves in a fast-paced business environment.

At AVG, we have a unique community/network approach to venture capital, where we raise relatively small checks ($50K minimum) from a large number of individuals. We build and manage venture capital funds for alumni of selective universities. For example, our Northwestern alumni fund, Purple Arch Ventures, raises a new $10M fund every year from ~100–200 alumni. Then the Purple Arch Ventures team invests that money and delivers to our investors a portfolio of 20–30 venture investments diversified by stage, sector, and geography, most with a connection to a Northwestern alumni.
